The texture of the stitches can vary, creating a tactile and visually appealing surface that imitates the feathery appearance of a chicken. You can use your imagination when it comes to yarn selections for this purse. The pattern is written for #6 jumbo yarn with a 7 mm crochet hook, but by using a #5 weight yarn and 5.5 mm hook you can create a “mini” purse for the little toddler in your life. The color palette used for the yarn can mimic the natural colors of a chicken, such as various shades of yellow, orange, white, and red.
The body of the chicken serves as the main compartment of the purse, providing space for carrying small items like phones, keys, coins, and even eggs! The wing serves as a functional small pocket on the front of the purse. The beak is a small triangular piece that adds a delightful touch to the overall look, while the comb on top of the chicken’s head adds an extra layer of texture and detail.
The purse is completed with a crocheted strap that allows it to be worn as a crossbody bag.

Using one strand of color A and a 7mm hook:
You are going crochet the two panels together, high side (“head”) of the panels should be touching each other.
Row 1: Ch 1, working into both panels, sc in ea st/row. (45)
Row 2 (Strap): Ch 100, and sl st to the 1st st of joining panels. (100)

ATTACH 12 mm safety eyes on row 9, about 1 stitch away from edge. I also recommend hot gluing the eyes on the inside of the head for extra security.
Comb
Using two strands of color B and a 7mm hook:
Insert your hook on the 2nd st from the crochet strap, and continue as follows.
Row 1: Ch 2, dc 3 into next 3 sts, sl st. (9)
Tie off, weave in ends.
Beak
Using one strand of color C and a 4.5mm hook:
*Note* this Beak is worked in the round.
Rnd 1: Make a magic circle, ch 1, sc 5 into ring, then tighten the magic circle. (5)
Rnd 2: *sc-inc in first st, sc in next st repeat from* to end of rnd, sc-inc in last st. (8)

Tie off leaving long tail to sew beak onto “head” of purse. Whip stitch beak on 4th stitch down from head, and on the top of the sc that you did to sew the panels together.
Wing
Using one strand of color A and a 7mm hook:
You are going to make the wing and then whip stitch/crochet the wing onto the purse.
Row 1: Ch 10, sc in the 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, sc in last st. (9)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 8 sts, hdc-inc in last st. (10)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, hdc in ea st across. (10)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 8 sts, hdc2tog over last 2 sts. (9)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, hdc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, sc in last st. (9)
Tie off, (this is the top of the wing). Top of wing should be on Row 7, flat side 8 stitches away from edge, whip stitch flat side of wing to purse. Then attaching a new strand of yarn, sc around the bottom and side of wing going INTO a stitch on the purse, then once you reach the top, sc across top of wing ONLY to create a pocket. Fasten off, weave in loose ends and enjoy your adorable chicken purse!
